Maj Gen (Dr) Pawan Anand, AVSM (Retd.)

Maj Gen (Dr) Pawan Anand, AVSM (Retd.) was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers and was awarded the President’s Gold Medal at the National Defence Academy for being First in Order of Merit, and later the Sword of Honour at the Indian Military Academy(IMA).In an illustrious career, Gen Anand commanded an Armoured Engineer Regiment, an Engineer Brigade in a Strike Corps, and was Chief Engineer of the South Western Command. During the Kargil War he controlled operations as Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, and later he was principal staff in a Counter Insurgency Force. He has been an instructor at the IMA, and College of Military Engineering. He was selected for the Defence Services Staff Course, the Higher Defence Management Course and National Defence College. He has held three appointments of domestic and foreign procurements, and represented his country in several delegations and defence cooperation conferences abroad, dealing with 17 countries. He is a qualified Mechanical Engineer, Masters in Strategic Studies, defence management, and a Doctorate in general management concerning indigenisation of defence industry. After the army, he was Secretary General of Highway Operators Association in the private sector. He is currently a Distinguished Fellow with the USI of India and Head of USI-ANBI, looking at deep technologies and defence industry. 


Col Ravinder Kumar Sharma  (Retd.)

Assistant Director - Centre for Atma Nirbhar Bharat 

Col Ravinder Kumar Sharma  (Retd.) was commissioned in Corps of Engineers (Bombay Sappers) after passing out from OTA Chennai on 20 Aug 1988. The Officer joined 113 Engineer Regiment at Nimu (J&K) and was deployed Siachen Glacier and Kargil Sector. The Officer is B Tech in Electrical Engineering from CME Pune.The Officer a graduate of DSSC Wellington and has attended DSSC-55. The Officer has a wide experience of serving in Jammu and Kashmir for over 11 years. The Officer Commanded 120 Engineer Regiment in HAA including Eastern and Western Ladakh. The Officer tenanted the appointment of Commander Works Engineer with Air Force at Jorhat Assam. The Officer has tenanted the appointments of DAA&QMG, Brigade GSO-1, Director Combat Engineers -4 at Army HQ, Colonel GS Engineers and Director MAP of Command HQ. The Officer has good understanding of CI Operations and High-Altitude operations. The Officer has been part of High-power team to Sweden for procurement of Boats for Pangong Tso and was Dy Leader of Exchange of Combat Engineers Experts to France. The officer had been Dy Leader of Border Personnel Meeting with China in eastern Ladakh on two Occasions. The Officer is presently doing duties of Additional Director at Centre for Atma Nirbhar Bharat-USI. The officer has participated in Operation Meghdoot, Operation Rakshak, Operation Vijay and Operation Parakram. The officer has been to the highest post in Siachen Glacier viz Bana Post for installation of Trolly based Haulage system. The officer was the Recovery Party Commander for recovery of Eight minefields in Western Sector during operation Parakram. The Officer has been awarded GOC-in-C, Southern Command Commendation Card, GOC-in-C, Northern Command Commendation Card and VCOAS Commendation Card. 


BRIEF IN RESPECT OF SUB/CLK (SD) NARESH KUMAR


Sub/Clerk (SD) Naresh Kumar joined the Indian Army in 30 Sep 1991 at Bengal Engineer Group and Centre Roorkee. He has served in HQ CWE (R&R) Hospital, Delhi Cantt, 237 Engineer Regiment,HQ Eastern Command, Engr Branch (MES), 12 Ground Air Survey Liaison Platoon, HQ BEG & Centre Roorkee, HQ 16 BRTF, 66 Engineer Regiment, GE (Project) West Delhi Cantt,  HQ CWE Udhampur, 61 Engineer Regiment. He was the Head Clerk in 61 Engineer Regiment prior to retirement.Presently, he is the Senior Clerk at CANB-USI.




Past Research Assistant

Subhalakshmi Brahma is currently a Research Assistant at the Centre of Atma Nirbhar Bharat (CANB), United Service Institution of India (USI)  She holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from Amity University Noida, along with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Maharaja Agrasen Himalayan Garhwal University, Uttarakhand. Prior to her current role, she worked with the Nacional Think Tank as a public policy intern and also at the Red Lantern Analytica as a summer intern from Amity University. She has published articles with the Loop Media on topics like the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, China's role in the evolving political dynamics of West Asia, the political unrest in Pakistan and maritime security concerns with regards to Myanmar, China and India focussing on India's Foreign Policy. Her research interests primarily revolve around South Asia and West Asia.


Past Researchers

Surbhi Chakraborty holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi, and a Master's degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Punjabi University, Patiala. She was Research Assistant with USI-ANBI (Atmanirbhar Bharat Initiative). Her work focused on identifying challenges and opportunities in indigenising the Domestic Defence Ecosystem, the role of strategic industries in national security architecture, and understanding the critical role of networking and startups. Her research also involved capacity building initiatives that involved close consultation with MSMEs and academia to foster collaboration in the field of deep and disruptive technology.
